PM will offer Anjali to Maa Durga this Ashtami in Kolkata, receives multiple invitations
The kingpin of an interstate drug trafficking racket has been arrested from Kolkata in a joint operation by Malda district police and Kolkata Police, officials said on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Enarul Sheikh, a resident of Malda district.
Acting on a tip-off, a special team of Malda police conducted a raid on Monday in the Entally police station area. After an extensive search operation, Enarul was apprehended. His uncle, Bhablu alias Shaukat Sheikh, was also arrested in connection with the case.
Police said Enarul was a key operative of a major drug network that sourced raw materials from northeastern states, manufactured brown sugar and supplied it to different parts of the country. The gang allegedly operated across several states, including West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand.
Malda Superintendent of Police Abhijit Banerjee said the accused had earned crores of rupees through drug trafficking and had been absconding for a long time. Investigators revealed that Enarul had trained several youths in Malda’s Kaliachak area in the process of making narcotics and managed distribution through multiple agents.
Police described the arrest as a major breakthrough in the state’s anti-drug campaign. The accused will be produced before a Malda district court, where police will seek custody for further investigation into wider links, including possible cross-border connections.
